Review of Tears of the Sun (2003) by Christopher P — 28 Apr 2012
This movie was good. It could have been better, but it was good. The plot could really have used some work. The intentions were noble, but Navy SEALS don't disobey orders, and Commanding Officers of Navy SEALS don't respond like it's no big deal. Don't get me wrong, I liked what they did - but I could have enjoyed it so much more if they could have just had their orders change to saving everyone. Is that so much to ask?
The attempt to include some aspect of romance in the story really felt forced. But the acting was good, and the movie could get really intense at times. The sad reality is that the genocide and persecution is not over-exaggerated at all. If anything it is under-exaggerated, which is terrible. My heart goes out to the victims in countries such as these, and any movie which raises awareness to this fact can't get a bad rap from unless it is REALLY bad...and this movie was good. It just could have been better.
