Review of Team America: World Police (2004) by Dan D — 15 Feb 2012
When freedom hangs on a thread it's time to put the "F" back in "Freedom". Released on October 11, 2004, Team America - World Police was directed by Trey Parker and Matt Stone, the famed creators of South Park. It's also a nicely made, tongue-in-cheek send-up of big-budget action movies in addition to being an extremely patriotic musical and Thunderbirds but with lots of crass and marionette puppets on crude acts and lots of highly armed combat. For Parker who was so recognizable for having the voice of Cartman he's done a nice job taking on multiple roles such as our hero Gary and our villain, the "ronery" dictator Kim Jong Il of North Korea. While many of celebrities have not approved of their performances here (and it's not really them voicing themselves) at least I find their likenesses striking. The puppetry may look innocent overall but the politically hilarious Team America is not for kids - it's actually for a grown-up audience who could handle such crude humor throughout.
"Remember, there is no 'I' in Team America!".
"Yes there is.".
