Review of Team America: World Police (2004) by Robert D — 16 Jun 2012
I laughed so hard at this movie it hurt, but I can understand someone not thinking it is funny. The story is another great peice of Matt and Trey's weaving and, despite having the weakness of "being a satire of its time period", it remains hilariously relevant to this day.
It embraces all of Matt and Trey's signatures in telling over-the-top stories with flat and predicable characters, emphasizing mostly the internal parody of such story-telling structure. Many of the jokes are highly intelligent in their aims and goals, but in true South Park fashion, it may be clever in its point, but rude, disgusting, and controversial in its delivery.
The marionettes are not a problem at all, rather a tongue-in-cheek way to literally parody itself. The songs are, just like the South Park movie, incredibly well written and memorable, and often can outshine the rest of what is going on.
