Review of Teaching Mrs. Tingle (1999) by Beth R — 24 Aug 2007
First of all, seeing this was not my idea. Now that that's established, let me just state that I HATE Katie Holmes in this movie. I hate her acting, hate her prissy character who gets away with cheating and backstabbing in the end, hate all the glorification she gets. I don't understand what the appeal is. I think Barry Watson's character is on crack for having a crush on her instead of her much-less-annoying friend.
Helen Mirren, on the other hand, is this movie's saving grace. She delivers her lines with such gusto and elegance that, although Mrs. Tingle is supposed to be evil, I couldn't help rooting for her over the idiot teenagers. What's more, I kept applauding her for telling it like she saw it. Way to go!
