Review of Taxidermia (2006) by Andrew C — 23 Jul 2007
It's pretty hard to give a movie like this a rating due to it's subject matter but I'd say 4stars would be appropriate to how much I 'enjoyed' it. The plot loosely revolves three generations of men, one a lowly soldier in the Hungarian army who whiles away is time spurting fire out of his penis and having sex with dead pig corpses. The next man spends his time taking part in world eating championships and vomiting up huge amounts of food with his fellow competitors - and the third man is his son, who looks after his dad now that he has grown so fat he can't move himself or even go to the toilet. His son spends his time stuffing animal corpses although to ones absolute horror he ends up stuffing much more than that. It truly is a completely disgusting movie that is almost as disturbing as Pasolini's 'Salo'.
It has a lot of comedy embedded in its madness though - it would be almost unbearable without it. I think the director is trying to compare us to animals while making some remarks about communism but I was too caught up in the imagery to pay much more attention that what I was seeing enacted out on screen.
Imagine watching it on blu-ray, there's a thought...
