Review of Taxidermia (2006) by Nikolay N — 30 Jan 2008
It's really hard to explain all the aspects of this film with just a few sentences. In brief, it grotesquely depicts the socialist regime in Hungary in a dark, yet hilarious manner, showing how three generations of men finally manage to construct their own distinctive piece of art through death.
Yes, the masterpiece is made by the artist while comminting a suicide and is put in a museum, just like communism. Great cinematography, camera work and promising directing. And the gore and gross stuff isn't purposeless, but is made only to wake you up and make you think, like a sniff of ammonia solution.
