Review of Taxidermia (2006) by Tibor B — 22 May 2008
A modern grotesque masterpiece that manages to include almost every single repulsive and nauseating thing you could think of. Palfi's debut film Hukkle played with the ideas of comparing the humans in the story with animals.
It's taken a step further here with the three generations of characters being a perverse sexual deviant, a vomiting, cuckolded speed-eater (think Mr. Creosote) and an introverted taxidermist who, in one of the most strikingly disturbing scenes filmed, simultaneously turns his suicide into a work of art.
It's all understandably hard to watch, but I think it's undeniable that Palfi is a unique new, darkly comic talent and exceeds even the Japanese in the extreme cinema genre.
