Review of Taxidermia (2006) by Matthew B — 09 May 2010
I refuse to rate Taxidermia based on the fact that while watching the movie, I felt as though I needed to know more about Hungary and it's history to actually 'get' it (and so I rated it 80% so as not to tarnish its current rating).
I felt like a complete outsider while watching this movie. I was out of the loop. And this made me feel that had I known more, it would have been a much better movie in my eyes. That being said, there is a definite ballsy-ness to director György Pálfi's approach to creating this film.
The three stories were too loosely sewn together, but the way in which all three were presented left me thinking of it for weeks to come. The grotesque scenes were as interesting as they were repelling and I would like to congratulate Pálfi on skirting this fine line in such an impressive way.
