Review of Taxi Driver (1976) by Andrew S — 09 Jan 2013
As much of a character study as it is social commentary, Taxi Driver is one of the most perfectly organized and put together works of cinema made in the last 50 years. Tied together by a slightly morose, jazzy score to match the solemn moods, the film features one of Deniro's humblest, truest performances delicately directed by the brilliant Scorsese.
It is slow, it is uneventful, but that just makes the build-up and ultimate climax that much more powerful. TD exhibits probably the best use of the build-up device, letting the viewer simmer in the mind of a ticking-time bomb ready to explode.
