Review of Taxi Driver (1976) by Christopher_G2 — 27 Jun 2014
One of Martin Scorsese's three masterpieces along with Raging Bull and Goodfellas, Taxi Driver just stuns me every time I watch it, and I've seen it at least eight times. It's a dark psychological drama about a cab driver named Travis and his descent into isolation and madness, attempting to live "normally" but finding that ultimately impossible.
Robert De Niro gives what I think to be his second best performance only behind Raging Bull, and in some ways this role is even more complex than that of Jake LaMotta was. This film, outside being excellent in it's craft from the direction and score and all the very strong supporting performances, is very entertaining though in a way that's sometimes hard to watch.
Just amazing.
