Review of Taxi Driver (1954) by Adam K — 15 Feb 2013
I revisited this film twice this week, my first viewing in five years. Its still among Scorsese's best and uses atmospheric lighting and moody score pieces to tell a story of one man's disillusionment with society.
Its a calm before a storm that will both intrigue you with its character exploration and shock you with its plot developments. Paul Schrader's flawless script is matched by one of the best directing jobs Scorsese has done in his long, celebrated career.
Travis Bickle remains one of the most quoted and celebrated characters in film, and this often unconventional piece of cinema history remains a staple for the "soul of a man" aesthetic that has pushed character-driven storytelling to great heights.
