Review of Taxi Driver (1954) by Justin S — 15 Dec 2013
Easily the greatest character piece ever put to film. This movie is super dark and very depressing yet you feel for Robert De Niro's Travis Bickle. This film takes you through his daily life and you see almost the entire film (with the exception of one scene) through his point of view.
You understand him at first but as the film goes on and as he transcends into further madness, he becomes less understandable and you know it cannot end well.. The ending made this film for me. When Travis shoots up the entire whorehouse due to his hatred and his every growing craziness.
He's then hailed as hero to the city. Since we have gotten to know him throughout the film, we know he's dangerous but since he's so called cleaned up an eye soar in the city, he's hailed a hero and allowed back on the streets even though he is completely insane and will continue to commit the same actions.
. such a brilliant film, My second favorite Scorsese movie behind goodfellas and one of the best films ever.
