The tale of a psychotic Vietnam veteran who wanders New York City every night on his cab in dangerous and aimless solitude. One of Scorsese's best films and a landmark in the filmmaking of the seventies, with its violence and subject of urban alienation.

As well as that, it could well be considered one of the most genuine American movies thanks to a great screenplay signed Paul Schroeder that comprises the down and dirty elements that constitute the dark side of society, shifting from petty crimes and political campaigning, to underage prostitutions and vigilantism as seen through the eyes of antihero Travis Bickle.

De Niro is memorable. Hermann's score, his last, helps in building up the haunting atmosphere.
