Review of Taxi Driver (1954) by Michael K — 23 Sep 2015
Taxi Driver directed by Martin Scorsese and stars Robert De Niro, Jodie Foster and Harvey Keitel. The movie follows the life of a former solider in his life of driving taxi's around New York city. But the movie goes much, much deeper than that.
You see him slowly turning more and more insane over time, until he finally breaks. His motives are clear, he really wants to get rid of all the scum in New York. The movie perfectly encapsulates the night life of new york city, and it probably has one of the best movie scores by Bernard Hermann.
An incredible and beautiful jazz score that perfectly accompanies the night life of new york. But where the movie really shines is the performances. Jodie Foster and Harvey Keitel both deliver fantastic performances, but the real star is Robert De Niro.
This guy is an absolute wonder. One of the best performances of all time. At times you don't even see De Niro, you just see a trouble stricken young man who is on the verge of insanity. There is also the fantastic script and the incredible direction from Martin Scorsese.
You really can't get better than this. One of the best movies ever made. 4/4.
