Review of Tashan (2008) by Mk. — 28 Apr 2008
For a movie that promised to be so much, Tashan did not just leave you with a sour taste in the mouth, it also left you with an almost overwhelming desire to gouge out your eyes with a spoon. And also an urge to hunt down whoever made this movie and shoot them.
The movie is peppered with a lot of colorful characters. And some potentially great action sequences. Yet the makers of this "movie" somehow contrived to make the whole much much less than the sum of it's parts.
How Yash raj films even decided to release this movie may never be known. What we have is a movie that is trying it's hardest to be a curious mixture of a romantic comedy, a hardcore action flick and a kung fu movie but ended up as something that does not fall into any of these genres.
As if performing seemingly impossible stunts weren't enough (very badly, it must be said), the movie also incorporates an extremely cheesy storyline into the mix along with some wannabe Matrix moments.
it's almost as though they made up the movie as they went along. Don't mistake. This is Bollywood at it's worst. For an industry that provided such timeless classics as Sholay and Devdas (the original), this is a new low.
Those movies left you with moments that you want to remember forever. Unsurprisingly the only moment you will remember from this movie is wanting the tedium to end as soon as possible. Possibly the worst movie in the decade.
