Jonathan Caouette's look back at his mother's troubled life and its effect on him and his family is touching and heartfelt, but also a scary, sad ride.

Jonathan Caouette took home movies he made over the years and spliced it together on a Mac, and for less than $300, he created Tarnation, the story of how what can happen if you leave something, or in terms of this movie someone, unchecked.
His mother's story, when you first learn it, is sad, which in turn makes everyone else's stories just about as sad, especially young Jonathan's, but made that much more sad when you learn that it probably all could have been avoided.
The editing is really quick. My friend likened it to a music video. The soundtrack just grabs you and throws you into that deep dark hole and the images pin you there.
That Jonathan survived it to become not only an actor, but to revisit his past experiences and bring his story to the world is an act of courage.
I was grateful I was able to see this film. Go see it yourself.
