Review of Tarnation (2003) by Clinton G — 23 Oct 2007
Weaving together years of home movies, Tarnation documents the upbringing of Jonathan Caouette. He was raised by his grandparents after his mother was institutionalised with schizophrenia. While it was unique in the way it presented his story, the lack of narration (intertitles were used instead) and the tendency to mix it all together in an abstract style took away from the narrative.
It didn't go deep enough into his story (which is a fascinating story, truth be told) to satisfy.
