Review of Tank Girl (1995) by Shane D — 09 Mar 2011
This poor movie gets such a bum rep. Well fuck all the haters. I'm here to say that I love this fuckin' movie. It was based on a comic by Jamie Hewitt (for those of you who don't know, Hewitt is one half of the creative duo responsible for Gorillaz).
It's silly, it's violent, it's got some great animated sequences, ludicrous dialogue, a healthy dose of punk aesthetic and humor, Lori Petty and Naomi Watts looking particularly adorable (to this day I want to be the meat in a Tank/Jet sandwich), and mutant kangaroo creatures.
What more do you need? What's that? You say you need Malcolm McDowell as the bad guy? Wish granted, bitches. I've always been a fan of the post-apocalyptic sub-genre of science fiction, and this, like six-string samurai, is a great little twist on the the whole sha-bang.
