Review of Tank Girl (1995) by Adam E — 06 Aug 2011

Hmmmm. I'm still not sure how I feel about this. It certainly tries to capture the feel of the comics, that strange zanyness and just out and out crazyness! Theres not much plot to it but then thats not what this is about really.

Its more about spectacle, what weird thing they can throw at the screen and see if it sticks. Sometimes it does sometimes it does not. Malcolm mcdowell camps it up like only he can and hes loads of fun, the rippers are ok (booger coming off a little bit to stupid which makes you think why anyone would like the loon), naomi watts star is starting to shine to.

But its lori film and she is loads of fun to watch. She seems to relish this role and takes full advantage of it throughout. Shes the closest we could get to getting tank girl on our screens. I suppose the main problems are that as hard as it tries it cannot reflect the feel of the graphic novels.

It tries its best and its an entertaining film throughout if you dont think to hard but its just missing something that makes it all click together. It is incredibley slow to start up to and its not until about half way that it really starts to get interesting.

The comic and animated scenes are great fun but are they there to give the film a certain feel or because the director did not know what else to do. So its a good fantasty film but is it a good tank girl film.

.....probably not!
