Review of Tango & Cash (1989) by Guido S — 23 Oct 2013
If I'd tell you that this movie ends on a particular cheesy high five after a climx full of explosions and Mad-Max-esque vehicle warfare, you would know all you need to know about this state-of-the-art entry in buddy cop movies. Yet, if this is all you expect, this is what you will get and you might even like it, I did ! There is no question that this is mainly a vehicle for Russel and Stallone, both of whom where at the hight of their careers in terms of quantity and exposure, even though they already had their best movies behind us. One liners, lots of action, bullets and ridiculous villains. Even more ridiculous and many other villains go. I am not sure if Jack Palance though he was portraying some sort of evil genius in a spin-off of the 60s Batman TV series but he is just a hoot, laughing and playing around with his mice and just generally being as menacing as hell. His sidekicks are also made up of a charming potpourri of foreigners (of course), one of which made up some sort of bogus British accent which earned him more lines in the script. Hey, who needs a creative scriptwriter, if you have actors like that ? Teri Hatcher does the woman thing, you know, being there in films.
All in all - a good and sometimes pretty hilarious action flick from the 80s and some might even call it a classic as far as the gerne is concerned. I enjoyed it, but only because I do like both Russel and Stallone and it was weird to watch a film starring both in their prime, that I had not seen before. Back in time !
