Review of Tango & Cash (1989) by Cal ( — 03 Aug 2007
'Tango and Cash' is nothing more (or less) than a simple 1980s style action film. There's nothing great about it, and there's nothing terrible about it. It's everything you'd expect in a crime/thriller/comedy: a few worthy one-liners, a few scenes to display the fitness beneath the shirt of the main actors, some creative deaths, interesting main characters, and it's high in plot holes.
Basically two rival cops named Tango (Stallone) and Cash (Russell) are framed and put behind bars. From there, they escape to find out who set them up and to find out what's really going on. And also there's Tango's sister who Cash shows an interest in, but Tango doesn't want to give his blessing.
I am an admirer of Stallone - but his performance here was laughably tragic. As for Kurt Russell - sleaze territory. Worth seeing for the interesting action sequences and the high body count, but other than that it's just your average "odd couple" cop movie.
