Review of Tangled (2010) by Jacob G — 09 May 2014
It's a testament to... something... that Disney can continue to peddle the Princess In Trouble trope and yet still make entertaining, interesting, charming movies.
While outclassed by this past year's Frozen, Tangled makes a strong showing, largely through its use of side characters like Maximus and showcasing a nostalgic villain.
And it's hard to not like Tangled, despite continued emphasis on "happily ever after", way too young marriage, and all that crap. It becomes more palpable in a context where the females are strong, intelligent, go-getter characters, rather than the limp shells needing men to do everything for them like they were in the early generations of Disney princess films.
