In "Tangerine," while celebrating Christmas Eve and her friend Sin-Dee(Kitana Kiki Rodriguez) being released from jail after a month at their favorite donut place, her friend Alexandra(Mya Taylor) accidentally lets slip that Sin-Dee's boyfriend Chester has been cheating on her. While she does have one bit of pertinent information about her, she does not have a name, leading Sin-Dee to start furiously looking for him. Alexandra agrees to help her, just as long as there is no drama. Which lasts all of five minutes, until they talk to Nash(Ian Edwards).

With "Tangerine," writer-director Sean Baker combines elements of neo-realism and screwball comedy with a superb use of locations for a winning combination. While the movie could be thought of as a holiday film with its focus on love, friendship and family, it does not look the other way, either, when it comes to the dangers of living and working on the streets. For Alexandra, her try at singing in a nightclub could be a sign of her reconsidering her options.
