Tangerine is like no other movie Iâ??ve ever seen. And Iâ??ve seen a lot of movies. I was drawn to it because it was getting a lot of #buzz here in #LosAngeles. I didnâ??t know why. But I had to! So glad I took the chance. Shot ENTIRELY on an #iPhone in Hollywoodâ??s east side (you know, the stretch known for transgendered prostitutes, and such). Here, the focus is on #SinDee, a transgendered prostitute who just got out of a month-long stint in prison. Upon her release, her buddy Alexandra tells her that her boyfriend/pimp, Chester, has been cheating on her with a â??real woman.â?? In this case, it seems as if they are defining a real woman as one born with a vagina. Both Sin-Dee and Alexandra are pre-op; that is, they still have penises. Did I tell you this is unlike any movie Iâ??ve seen? Writer/director #SeanBaker seems to capture this world quite remarkably. The film is indeed a comedy, but at no time does he make fun of any of the characters being transgendered.

Back to the story. Alexandraâ??s news sends Sin-Dee on a tirade through East Hollywood looking for Chester and the â??fishâ?? he cheated with. The movie takes place over the course of one day with a few other subplots fighting for screen time. Alexandraâ??s big singing debut takes place that evening at West Hollywoodâ??s #HamburgerMaryâ??s. Sheâ??s trying to assist Sin-Dee â??as long as thereâ??s no drama.â?? #GirlPlease! And then thereâ??s Razmik, an Armenian taxi driver who has his own agenda for the night. All these stories culminate at #DonutTime, an L.A. landmark in the seedy East Hollywood world (located on the corner of Santa Monica and Highland.

I was, at times, laughing out loud and at others thinking â??oh no they didnâ??t!â?? Overall, a fun ride.
