Review of Tangerine (2015) by Phyllis D — 02 Feb 2016
I have to admit, I just don't see what all the hype is over this film...I totally agree with another critic's partial assessment of the movie (and I am taking this direct quote because I could not have said it better:".
..the film's colors are as electric as the characters' emotions, the setups and framing are fairly conventional..." That pretty much sums it up: conventional. We basically have a very vibrant looking film, a great aesthetic, and some very good acting; but the story is extremely basic and, well, just not that interesting.
Take away the whole cross-dressing, transgender element and you simply have another overrated "mumblecore" piece that plays out like an extended tv sitcom episode.
