Review of Tampopo (1985) by Angelo T — 21 Jan 2008
Anyone hates to blurt out cliches. But if I were to take a bullet and use it once in my lifetime, Im not the least bit hesitant to say that Tampopo is a TIMELESS MASTERPIECE. Seriously, read the movie summary, this movie brilliantly imatates the mapping of a dandelion. The movie was done so perfectly that you were able to identify with its core characters, but enjoy the short stories of the characters that come to play for a scene or two. My favorite is the ill mother who cooks her familys last meal and just drops dead right after.
The style is something that cannot be imitated, even though it draws it influences from genres such as spaghetti westerns.
Much like the final product in which Tampopo herself brews in the end, the ingredients of this movie left me watching it again right after it ended. Not to mention I got to some major Jonesing for soup.
