Review of Tammy (2014) by Ray C — 29 Jul 2014
While "Tammy" is never as gut-bustingly funny as fans of Melissa McCarthy have come to expect, it does serve as a turning point of sorts for the actress. McCarthy showcases a surprising depth as the title character and what could have been just another by-the-numbers R-rated comedy turns out to be an endearingly sweet character dramedy.
McCarthy is aided by a phenomenal supporting line-up that includes Susan Sarandon, Dan Ackroyd, Allison Janney, Toni Collette, Kathy Bates and Sandra Oh. Overall, "Tammy" is one of the biggest, most pleasant surprises of the summer.
