Review of Tamara Drewe (2010) by Leo B — 12 Sep 2010
Ok British film adapted from the graphic novel which itself was an adaptation of Hardy's Far from the Madding Crowd. A former ugly duckling returns home now beautiful and turns the heads of many people in her immediate surroundings.
There is a noticeable impact on what occurs at the neighbouring writer's retreat. Stephen Frears is a good director and the film captures the lovely English countryside beautifully. Bill Camp and Tamsin Greig give inspired performances.
However, the characters are, for the most part, so loathsome or bland it is hard to care about them.
