Review of Tamara Drewe (2010) by Deborah P — 16 Sep 2010
Probably a great book, but heavy going as a movie. Not sure why I really didn't enjoy this, but it felt like I was sat in the theatre for eons it dragged so badly. Good bits? Tamsin Greig was fabulous and you felt a real empathy with her character (however dull).
The 2 young girls had a certain manic likeability. Dominic Cooper was bizarrely attractive as the pain in the arse rock star, Luke Evans was more attractive but somehow just not hot enough. On the minus side - I usually love Gemma A's work, but in this I just found her character unlikeable so didn't care what happened to her.
Roger Allam's character was also annoyingly awful, though both were well played. I'm a country girl at heart but this just reminded me of all that is dreary about living in an English village.
