Review of Tamara Drewe (2010) by Matthew L — 02 Jun 2011
An odd little film, which can only best described as a racier version of The Archers with a hint of black comedy and delivered with a comic-book breeziness and light touch. When small village girl Tamara Drewe returns home, with a new nose and denim hotpants, she stirs up the love lives of the village.
The cast is great, with Arterton being overshadowed by some great supporting turns, a real highlight being Jessica Barden's mischievous "jailbait Jodie". The film is good fun and amusing throughout and just about balances its mish-mash of tones and storylines, the overwhelming feeling being of slightly madcap farcical romance.
