Review of Tamara Drewe (2010) by Robert M — 03 Dec 2010
Now this is a curiosity: a film based on a graphic novel that doesn't involve any superheroes or anything even mildly supernatural. It's odd to think of a comic about romancing villagers in the quaint English countryside, but there you are.
Tamara Drewe isn't terribly compelling or particularly interesting, but it's such a pleasant time with some fun, well-drawn characters that it doesn't matter too much. This is a great ensemble, especially Roger Allam as the slimy adulterous husband and Jessica Barden as the mischievous girl who causes more drama than the titular Tamara.
Ultimately, the film doesn't amount to much, but it's an enjoyable sit, at least.
