Review of Tall Girl 2 (2022) by Jluis_001 — 12 Feb 2022
The first movie that basically just exploited the insecurities of a privileged young woman over something as banal as her height, got its good reception and Netflix probably said, ''Let's do the sequel, keep everything in place, and that's it. We've got a new cheap release to keep stuffing the catalog.''
It can be argued that some teens will find something that resonates for them or feels too close to home, but that's the shattering weakness of the story, because it's not about you feeling connected to the character for accepting herself, but finding your own insecurities and believing that these must define you as they defined her since the first movie, because her character can't go a damn moment without mentioning her height.
We know the story is called Tall Girl, and we can see it, we don't need the reminder.
This really looks like the narrative is telling the audience that they have things they can mold in order to project a confidence they probably don't feel and it's the best they can hope for to get through that stage of their lives.
