Review of Talk to Me (2007) by Truman T — 25 Jun 2010
This got the slightest of theatrical releases in Australia because apparently we're only interested in stories about white Americans. Its a pity because this a great depiction of an exciting time in recent history.
Like most biopics, the early section is by far the most exhilarating. I've always loved Don Cheadle and Chiwetel Ejiofor, and they are excellent here, but I wasn't expecting Taraji Henson to knock my socks off - she's much better here than in Benjamin Button for which she was generously nominated for an Oscar.
Great dynamics in character relationships, wonderful period detail and a bitchin soundtrack. It gets a bit rote and didactic near the end, but still well worth a watch.
