Review of Talk to Me (1996) by Makar Y — 07 Feb 2009
I always get Tim Meadows and Don Cheadle mixed up -- and this movie didn't help matters. Okay, this is not The Ladies Man, but what if they were both together on the big screen? That would be awesome!
Anyway, this is a very good movie, and I'm disappointed that only 29% want to see it. It's one of those movies that most of us will land on while we're flipping through channels, and we won't be able to tear ourselves away. Cheadle and Ejiofor are great, but Sheen's the scene-stealer. Here we get a taste of the 60s, a taste of racism, and a nice dose of Petey Greene. It all adds up to a satisfying biopic. I figured Greene's past would catch with him, and it does in a sense, but there's not the implosion that Hollywood has fallen in love with.
Even as a white man born after the turbulence portrayed, I was still engaged throughout.
