Review of Talk to Her (2002) by Rob S — 19 May 2008
Instant favorite.
I'd heard a lot about this Almodovar guy and my expectations were high. What a pleasant surprise to have them so thoroughly exceeded! I dont even know how to describe this movie. One of those movies where its a little disturbing how much the filmmaker has control over your emotions. From the opening shot you know that youre in the hands of a talented artist. Enthralling plot, tragic characters, gorgeous cinematography. The bookend ballets are perfect. Incredible acting, music. Convoluted plot reminded me of Wong Kar Wai meets telenovela. Almodovar's level of insight into human emotions is impressive and enlightening. Need to watch it again, but I expect to love it even more on second viewing. An absolute MUST SEE.
