Review of Talk to Her (2002) by Brian S — 09 Aug 2010
Almodovar usually really impresses me, but this film just rubbed me the wrong way. the relationships between men and women are dysfunctional, confused, and often outright creepy. I wouldn't so much mind an examination of the four main characters' various moral quandaries, but morality is, I feel, barely a side note.
I do not feel that I am being asked "can you feel for and appreciate these people despite their shortcomings?" the film's ending is especially disturbing because it just sets up another scenario which obviously cannot end well.
no, I don't feel for these characters. if circumstances are as indeed as the film portrays them, their sick, sordid lives are honestly deserved.
