Review of Tales from the Golden Age (2009) by Martin Y — 07 Jul 2010
Supposedly a very human and therefore blatant view of what life was in totalitarian Romania in the 80's, this movie is also both hilarious and tragic. Five different stories draw the picture of irrational fear and its subsequent behaviour. We become witnesses of truly funny moments and decisions on the surface of the story, but when it comes to realizing that this was not funny 30 years back, we take a step back and see the ugly face of totalitarian socialism and its lack of real connection with people.
Recommended in the company of people who have experienced those times. It is a short journey and you will need a good guide.
