Review of Tales from the Darkside: The Movie (1990) by Mr P — 13 May 2007
The freakiest wraparound movie of all time! Has to be. "The Cat From Hell" has to be the funniest, yet most vomit inducing story of the film. The thought of a nice little kitty being the villain, attacking poor old William Hickey" is quite hilarious. Add in some Dexter Poindexter and wow...what were they thinking, you ask? Believe me, it's great. You laugh, then realize that this cat is bad ass and decides to do something you'd never thought you'd see. I almost throw up every time I see it...just...unreal.
Much kudos also to the gargoyle story at the end. Probably the best story of the bunch...scary, wonderful fx, and a heartbreaking twist. It's in another league from most stories in films like this. The story featuring a mummy come to life is also very entertaining for mummy movie fans like me.
The wraparound story at the beginning and end are also my favorite. Blondie makes an appearance in a Hansel & Gretel-esque tale that is the perfect dark humor that a movie like this thrives upon.
