Review of Tale of Tales (2015) by Spencer K — 14 Sep 2016
It may get a little too ambitious for its own good, but Tale Of Tales is unlike any fairy tale movie I've ever seen. it's dark, brooding, unique and haunting. the set pieces are incredible, the costumes are beautiful, and the visual effects are top grade.
it's narrative structure is different and it works well with the different stories, because they all blend so well together. it was never jarring when the stories would switch because it all felt like just one big connected story.
it just all flowed well. the acting is good, the writing is interesting and the directing and the cinematography are incredible. they clearly had a vision for what they wanted this movie to be, and I could clearly tell that it was accomplished.
Tale Of Tales is a very weird film, but it's absolutely insane in its creativity, wonderfully inventive and engrossing in its world building, Tale Of Tales succeeds in being a very unique, incredibly original, and most importantly a dark, haunting fairy tale that should definitely not be missed by a mature audience that's looking for something very different and wholly original.
