Review of Taking Woodstock (2009) by Heather C — 17 Jan 2010
Demetri Martin shows a surprising depth here, and Imelda Staunton is fantastic as a selfish mother who becomes even more unsympathetic as the film goes on. The film as a whole, though -- for all of Ang Lee's stylistic homages -- falls somewhat flat and (to me) never quite captures the real thing.
It does make me want to read the book on which it's based, though, to see if it fills in any gaps. Earns an extra star for Liev Schreiber as the beautiful Velma.
