Review of Taking Woodstock (2009) by Jukka H — 11 Jul 2010
So one thing is for certain about this movie and it's that Demetri Martin cannot act at all. The good news is he is a pretty decent comedian and he provided some pretty funny scenes and at least delivered on the comedic side of things.
Luckily the rest of the cast around Martin was pretty good and they were able to pick up the slack of Martin. There were a few instances where his awkwardness brought down some scenes. I don't think this movie really did a good job of toeing the line between drama and comedy.
The comedy was there, but during some of the most poignant scenes Martin didn't really deliver so the effect and the point was lost. The direction was nice though, and I really loved some of the editing used.
The split screen sequences were pretty nice and they really provided some good transitions that kept this movie flowing. I think had their been an actual actor instead of a comedian playing the lead role then this movie may have been a lot better, but I think it probably would have lost a lot of the comedy.
Overall it was a good flick with some flawed acting.
