Review of Taking Woodstock (2009) by Danijel J — 12 Dec 2010
Woodstock, many of us grew with the tale of Woodstock and this movie is something that reminds us about it. If you're not a bit nostalgic about the time in question you won't like it, but Ang Lee for me does it again.
Touchy theme as so many people has so many different feelings about the festival, and especially when its mythical as it is today; becomes in Lee's hands almoust fluid, with few psychodelic scenes, which reminds us on "Easy Rider", "The Party" and few movies of Dennis Hopper and Sam Peckinpah.
But, be warned... Water is impossible to stay on your hands, its fluid and you can't contain it. Don't try to do that with this film either, keep your mind open, go back to the spot of "Summer of love" and relax.
Later you can be sorry that passed so many years ago, and today's everything so different with not enough heart and immagination. Ang Lee tried to give you touch of the past, and so he did. But not on a mythical way you are maybe exoecting, he gave you feeling of being there if (if you let him) and that's in my humble opinion - priceless.
