Review of Taking Lives (2004) by Carlos R — 12 Feb 2010
At the time of release this film felt very much influenced by the far superior.
Movie, Seven. Whilst Seven should, quite rightly be labelled the pinnacle of serial killer films, this movie, although stinted and tainted by that said film, is still enjoyable and has it's moments. Angelina Jolie looks absolutely stunning, Keifer Sutherland shines in a small but pivotal role, it's all suitably fast-paced and Paul Dano's sequence at the beginning of the film is unsettling and effective. However the film is rather predictable, Ethan Hawke doesn't fully convince as the charmeleon life-taker and it all seems that little bit too far-fetched.
I caught this on a re-run on TV and was glad I did. Fun but no classic.
