Review of Taking Chance (2009) by Blanky A — 24 Apr 2010
This is a film that isn't anti-war or pro-war, simply because that's not its point. Its point is that on the most fundamental matters, Americans - and by extension, all people - share a common sense of decency and concern.
They understand when it's not about them, but about somebody and something else. Bacon's performance might be the best of his career. Given little dialogue, he has to convey the story with expressions, gestures and body language, and he does it masterfully.
When Michael Strobl finishes his escort detail for the late Pfc. Phelps, he is surprised to find how much of it has stayed with him. This film has the same effect.
