Review of Takers (2010) by Joanna C — 10 Jul 2011
Takers seems to have split opinion among the public big time, but I didn't like it and for various reasons. First of all, I didn't think the story was well thought out. The concept itself is pretty good. It's unoriginal but still a good one to say the least. However, any time you use an unoriginal concept for a film, you have to make sure it's executed right. Watching this, I couldn't help but think of several other films I had seen before. Which ruined whatever sense of freshness this movie had. Another problem I had was the casting. There's nothing wrong with a "musician-turned-actor" and vice-versa as it's only human nature to try and do something new with your career.
However, anytime you cast a musician in a film, you have to make sure their performances are top-notch and they have a solid script to work with. However, the acting is quite lousy and so is the script. Don't get me wrong, T.I. and Chris Brown are talented musicians, it's just that there is always room for improvement as far as acting goes. The cast overall is decent but it should have been much better. I can't stick the knife in too far though, Takers does feature some cool moments. Especially with the action sequences, but overall it's a letdown.
