Review of Taken 3 (2014) by Tristan M — 14 Oct 2015
Don't know how many of these movies they can make, hopefully this is the last one. Although it's the franchise that Liam Neeson is most famous for by far, it's never been a particularly good one.
But still this is the low point. Nobody is actually taken this time, but instead there is a murder of his wife and set up to make it look like he did the deed. It's pretty basic, run around the city away from the cops, be a badass, beat some people up, know everything and get away with it.
Basically what we have come to expect. The acting is standard, the script generally weak, and cinematography good for the most part. The action is so-so. The hand to hand stuff that we have come to love from the Taken movies is still there and fun to watch, as shown in the gas station/convenience store fight.
The gun battles are one sided for Neeson, even though he's out gunned and manned, and running through the path of all the rounds while everything around him is destroyed. But the car chases/anything fast paced with a car are poorly done, it's just a bunch of extremely short clips bunched together to the point of us not even knowing what's going on.
The ending last stand is decent for a bit, but then the supposed good guy who owed money turned out to be setting them up of course, the typical twist that we can all see coming and just plain and simply sucks.
We get what we expect as an ending, but we can still wish he killed the guy for sure, isn't that what these movies are known for? Anyways not impressive, slow boring story, decent small fights but larger scale action does not stand up.
Maybe know the franchise will end before it really ruins it reputation.
