Review of Taken (2004) by Mark R — 24 Mar 2013
Yes, this a bombastic and over-the-top action-packed B-movie. This is no bad thing, and as a B-movie, it's one of the best there is.
Neeson has the uncanny ability to make any movie he takes part in a classy affair, and above its usual tropes. Taken is no exception, as Luc Besson could have given us another From Paris With Love or some awful Nic "I've got a huge tax bill to pay so who cares how good the script is" Cage fiasco.
All of the set-pieces are slick and the movie does not outstay its welcome because as soon as the action kicks-in the pace never lets up.
The only slight issue with the movie is that Maggie Grace does not convincingly portray a 17-year old, but that is a minor niggle.
All in all, a fun action flick, that despite the unpleasant premise gives great entertainment to the viewer.
