Review of Taken 2 (2012) by James W — 29 Jun 2016
It was never, ever going to be as good as the first one, and after watching it that's definitely true. But Taken 2 is still a bloody good movie, my only real issue is that it's missing the brutally awesome violence, the darkness and lightning fast narrative that was in the first film.
12A is not ideal for a film of this nature, this isn't exactly a persuasive argument for another movie. This sequel, truthfully, isn't really needed, the only difference is the setting and the situation but it's still entertaining.
The story this time is Bryan Mills and Lenore are taken this time, and Kim is the one who sets out to try and save her family before the Albanian traffickers get their vengeance. Maggie Grace has the chops, all the cast prove that they can go for a second round.
The action is fantastic, especially the car chase towards the Embassy, although isn't as thrilling and violent like the first movie, Olivier Megaton's choppy camerawork and editing do keep the momentum fast.
Overall a fun action movie, I've clearly outlined my reasons as to why it's not as good as the first, but I'd still give it a go for fans of the first and for people looking to see Neeson kick ass.
