Review of Taken 2 (2012) by Ameen K — 20 Mar 2015
A sequel to a movie that had no need for one, and takes the franchise to far already. Revenge sequels are for everything now, and this one is just as repetitive as the rest, except this time it stars Liam Neeson and slaps Taken 2 on the cover.
Taken has already gained some fame from Brian's speech to his daughters captors, and this seceding film isn't really known very well. It's pretty standard, full of punching, destroying throats, directions, chases, and using the word 'taken' instead of kidnapping.
Of course the bad guys are foreign, wield batons and pistols, and are deaf and blind when it comes to guarding anything. They also take their sweet time which is concubines for anyone willing to save to day or escape, resulting in a predictable film.
The pace is good, not to fast not to slow, the script is decent, the acting is better, and the characters are far more developed and important than in the original. The action is pretty good, confusing at times, always hand-to-hand, and in favour of the hero.
Exciting, interesting, and well thought out parts like the escape and counting corners and gear shifts while in the van to determine location. This movie is let down by the fact that there are so many movies out there exactly like it, and simply having different character and a better known title doesn't make the film itself any better.
Average, unbelievable and unoriginal story, plus the fact that the real hero is Brian's daughter, who runs around throwing grenades in the street (which doesn't attract police) and other not so thought out stuff like the infinite ammo harassing this movie all the way through.
Not as good as the original.
