Review of Take This Waltz (2011) by Ian F — 25 Jan 2012
While Polley's first film "Away From Her" was a lovely and heartbreaking film about why to stay together, this acts as a horrific reason to stay apart. While Michelle Williams is lovely, she's ultimately unlikable and therefore makes the narrative difficult to swallow.
Why cheater for a cheater that you hate? Furthermore, one that is married to a very likeable (oddly for the first time) Seth Rogen. While the token "Bridesmaids"-esque scene stands alone as the funniest part, it really isn't that funny otherwise.
In the end, you still hate Williams' Margo and feel she is making a huge mistake, something Polley in no way seems to be striving for.
